Transportation (by Air)

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (formerly known as Dorval International Airport) is twenty minutes from downtown and has direct flights to over 120 destinations worldwide. It is serviced by over 40 airlines, including Air Canada, Air France, American Airlines, British Airways and WestJet. Public transit can be used to get to or to leave the airport 24/7 (CAN$9 fare, but daily and 3-day passes are available).


Transportation (by Land)

Travelers from other Canadian provinces generally arrive via the Trans-Canada Highway. Montréal is about five hours from Toronto, two hours from Ottawa, and an hour from the U.S. border. Some other driving distances can be found here, as well as up-to-date highway information.

Visa Information

You may need both a passport and a visa to visit Canada on a temporary basis.

Information on visas and entry requirements to Canada is available from Immigration Canada at 1-888-242-2100 (in Canada) or visit Immigration Canada's Web site for instructions on who needs to apply for a visa. From outside Canada, you can also contact the nearest Canadian Embassy, High Commission, or consulate in your region.


Invitation Letter

If you need an invitation letter for the purposes of applying for a visa, please contact Guillaume-Alexandre Bilodeau (guillaume-alexandre.bilodeau < at > polymtl.ca). Note that the invitation letter will be provided to authors only. For an invitation letter, the following information is required:

  1. Name and mailing address as it appears on your passport
  2. Registration confirmation number
  3. Title of accepted paper(s)
  4. Fax number and email address

Attendees should plan their travel well in advance. Please allow at least two weeks for the letter to be received, especially for overseas requests. Please plan accordingly.
